It's time for the weekend and now that our strange winter-like rains are gone, it's definitely time to heat up the BBQ. Last weekend was the last week of Jazzfest 2009 - it's been, let's see, how old is our oldest, 11 years since we were last there in person. But every year at the end of April my heart's on the racetrack in N'awlins, wishing I could wander from the Congo Stage on over to the Gospel tent (with a quick stop at the Crawfish Etouffe stand.)
So in honor of the approach of summer and the great musical city of New Orleans, I present Kermit Ruffins. One year during Jazzfest we caught his show at Donna's and he was, in fact, barbequing on a little portable grill on the street outside before his gig started. So he fed us, then he played for us. That's why I love New Orleans.
