So Andrew's mom has been visiting from New York, and she is a wonderful piano player and music teacher. She suggested inviting over a few friends last night to do an old-fashioned holiday singalong party. The idea was a hit with my holiday commercialism-weary friends, and we gathered about 20 people last night to sing everything from Hark the Herald to the Dreidel Song. Some Glogg, Celebration Ale, and Christmas cookies made the halls festive and bright.
Imagine my surprise to find that the whole event had been captured and posted on YouTube. Yes, we sat around a bearskin rug, the ladies' bouffants were crispy, the men wore corduroy knickers, and Andrew got on the hammer to accompany us on the chimes for "Count Your Blessings."
Actually, the husbands stood around the tub of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, the wives drank up all the Glogg, and the kids ran roughshod while poor Grandma banged away at the piano, almost impossible to hear. But everyone had a merry time, and the stalwarts who wanted to sing "Adeste Fidelus" got their chance. Hope you have a nice low-key weekend full of the best kind of holiday cheer.
Was hoping to actually see you and the gang in your merriment! Fun.
ReplyDeleteI think Andrea's got that video. Hopefully she will have captured the children breakdancing to Silent Night.
